Samia Amao
Fundraising Assistant
Samia’s early career in international development involves internships with Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor, where she advocated for behaviour centred design approaches to project planning and delivery and supported cross country learnings on key WASH issues. With ActionAid in The Gambia, she contributed to initiatives combatting gender-based violence, FGM and child marriage. She has a BA in International Development with French from the University of Sussex.
Peace Amito
Programme Manager
Amito Peace is a Ugandan-trained human rights lawyer with an LLM in International Human Rights (international justice specialization). She has a keen interested in leveraging innovative and collaborative strategies to advance equality, accountability and the rule of law. Peace’s work has focused on development and implementation of policy and institutional reforms for victim-centred accountability for international crimes. Her experience includes advocacy, research, training, capacity building, policy analysis, policy development and project management. She has worked extensively with international, regional and national policymakers, civil society actors and academics in post-conflict and transitional countries. Prior to joining REDRESS she was the Programme Officer in charge of the International Criminal Justice and Transitional Justice programme portfolios at TrustAfrica.
Julie Bardeche
Senior Legal Advisor
Julie is a legal advisor at REDRESS since 2018. Prior to REDRESS, she worked as a Legal Officer for the International Co-Investigating Judge at UNAKRT in Cambodia for five years. There, she worked on four different investigations relating to allegations of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Between 2011 and 2013, she practiced at the Paris (France) Bar for two years, where she represented asylum seekers and practiced criminal law, amongst others. She also worked on developing legislative frameworks for public private partnerships, and white collar crimes, as well as on regional human rights cases in West Africa. She has an LLM in Human Rights, Conflict and Justice at SOAS, and a Masters in Public International Law at Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas.

Anoushka Canagaretna
Programme Development Manager
Anoushka has a background in developing humanitarian response and human rights programmes during protracted conflicts and natural disasters, with a focus on intersectional vulnerabilities and survivor-led approaches. She has written about the impact of longstanding human rights violations in the Gaza Strip, funded and grown partnerships with civil society in Europe, Asia and the Middle East and resourced Covid-19 emergency support in the UK.

Sheilagh Cardosa
Head of Finance
Sheilagh joined REDRESS in January 2017 as Head of Finance.
For the past twenty years she has worked in various charities, specializing in violence against women and girls.
Sheilagh was the Finance Manager for Eaves for twelve years, where she oversaw the many changes and challenges in the sector.
Olivia Dehnavi
Advocacy Officer
Olivia is responsible for supporting and delivering our policy primarily in the United Kingdom, including Magnitsky Sanctions, universal jurisdiction and upholding the absolute ban on torture. She also works with the Communities Officer to ensure the participation of survivors and survivor communities in our policy advocacy campaigns. Before joining Redress, Olivia was the Senior Policy Officer at Clinks, where she advocated for changes to policy and practice to improve prison and probation conditions in England and Wales. She previously led on policy and research at Working Chance, the UK’s only employment charity for women with convictions. Olivia began her career in Cambodia, where she worked as a technical advisor for local NGOs supporting human rights defenders. In Phnom Penh, she co-founded the city’s first feminist film festival, and lectured in law at the Royal University of Law and Economics. Olivia has written for the Monument Fellowship book on criminal justice and gal-dem magazine, and has a chapter included in The Routledge Handbook of Women’s Experiences of Criminal Justice. She sits on the board of trustees at Rights of Women. She has a Graduate Diploma in Law from City University.
Chris Esdaile
Senior Legal Advisor
Chris joined REDRESS in 2017 as a Legal Advisor. Prior to joining REDRESS, Chris worked at Leigh Day on corporate accountability litigation, and on claims resulting from ill-treatment by British forces during the Iraq conflict. After working in South Africa on human rights issues in the period before the end of apartheid, as a solicitor he undertook housing litigation for vulnerable tenants in Birmingham, where he was a founding partner of the specialist housing practice, the Community Law Partnership. Chris served on the International Human Rights Committee of the Law Society from 2000 to 2004. From 2004-2009 he worked as legal advisor at a centre for abused women in northern Chile, later assuming the role of director of this project. Chris studied law at Birmingham University (LLB) and has an LLM in International Human Rights Law from Queen Mary University of London.

Joss Gillespie
Communications and Digital Assistant
Joss has a Masters degree in International Humanitarian Action from the Erasmus Mundus NOHA programme at Uppsala University, where he specialised in Armed Conflict and Humanitarianism at Warsaw University. Prior to joining REDRESS, Joss worked in Thailand as a Communications Officer for an advocacy network supporting grassroots human rights movements in Myanmar/Burma. He was also a communications intern for the Nepal hub of a youth-led development agency and spent several summers volunteering to support young asylum seekers in Greece. Joss has worked as an editor on multiple published books and as a copywriter for a private-sector training company. He has a BA in English Literature from the University of Bristol and a foundation degree in Acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Amelia Hunt
Administration Assistant
Amelia has recently earned a Masters degree in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Westminster, where she trained in simultaneous and public service interpreting and medical and legal translation into and out of French. Prior to joining REDRESS, Amelia worked as a Youth Mentor and Reparation Worker for Catch 22, supporting young offenders through court-ordered community service. She was also administrative assistant to the Community Learning Department of Bristol City Council where she helped asylum seekers and low-income earners to develop their educational and professional skills through community courses. In London, Amelia has regularly volunteered at the Notre Dame Refugee Centre, where she provides practical support and interpretation services to asylum seekers and refugees, and has recently become a member of their Events Committee. She has a BA in French and Theatre from the University of Bristol.
Holly Huxtable
Legal Officer
Prior to joining REDRESS, Holly was based in Cambodia, working as a Legal Consultant for the International Co-Prosecutor at UNAKRT, and then as a Technical Advisor for local NGOs assisting victims of business and human rights violations. Holly has worked in the field of victims’ rights for the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Council of Europe, and the European Union Fundamental Rights Agency, where she conducted socio-legal research and developed victim-centred legislation and policies. Holly has also spent time working on strategic litigation projects at Human Rights in Practice and the Turkey Litigation Support Project. She has an Advanced LLM in Peace, Justice and Development from Leiden University.
Victoria Kerr
Consultant Legal Officer
As a Legal Officer at REDRESS, Victoria works on asset recovery and the repurposing of assets frozen under Magnitsky Sanctions for the purpose of human rights reparations for Ukraine. She has also worked for the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in The Hague since 2021 on a project aimed at strengthening Ukrainian national criminal justice actors’ capacity to document, investigate, prosecute, adjudicate and report on international crimes in partnership with Global Rights Compliance. Prior to this, Victoria worked for Ceasefire Centre for Civilian Rights, Global Rights Compliance and at the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague. She is a Scottish qualified solicitor and holds an LL.B. from the University of Edinburgh and an LL.M. in Globalisation and Law (specialisation Human Rights) from Maastricht University.
Natalia Kubesch
Legal Officer
As a Legal Officer at REDRESS, Natalia focuses on the use of Magnitsky sanctions to provide accountability for serious human rights violations. Prior to joining REDRESS, Natalia practiced at two international law firms, working on complex financial crime investigations and litigations, and advised on compliance with the UK’s sanction regimes. During this time, Natalia maintained a busy pro bono practice and led on litigation and policy reform projects on behalf of victims of arbitrary detention, sexual violence and gender discrimination. She has also volunteered for numerous legal advice centres and access to justice initiatives. Natalia has an LLB in Politics, Philosophy and Law from King’s College London, an LLM in International Law from the University of Cambridge and is completing an MSc in Human Rights at the London School of Economics. She is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales.
Andrew Lane
Legal Assistant
Prior to joining Redress, Andrew worked in Germany and the UK specialising in emerging technologies and AI. He has worked for Global Diligence LLP, specialising in sanctions and asset recovery, and Climate Counsel, attending COP24 in Glasgow as part of the Stop Ecocide Coalition. He holds a BA in English Literature with Politics from the University of Exeter and completed his legal studies at City, University of London.
Caitlan Lloyd
Legal Officer
Caitlan is a Legal Officer at REDRESS and works primarily on advancing transitional justice in Sudan. Prior to joining REDRESS, Caitlan practised at an international law firm, acting in complex disputes and contentious regulatory proceedings. He also advised NGOs (including REDRESS) on international human rights litigation and advocacy. Caitlan is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales and studied law at the University of Oxford (BA).
Natalie Lucas
Legal Officer
Natalie coordinates REDRESS’s work on corruption sanctions in collaboration with the UK Anti-Corruption Coalition. Prior to joining REDRESS, Natalie worked as a Visiting Professional in the Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court. Previously, she spent 5 years practising in London, Paris and Singapore at an international law firm where she represented clients in complex international arbitration and litigation proceedings. Throughout her career, she has maintained a busy pro bono practice including, most recently, managing a project preparing submissions to the Special Procedures of the UN Human Rights Council on behalf of victims of alleged human rights abuses in South-East Asia. Natalie is a qualified solicitor in England and holds a LLB (Hons) from the University of Exeter and a LLM in International Law from the University of Cambridge.
Dianne Magbanua
Communications and Digital Assistant
Dianne spent the first years of her career as a journalist and documentary producer focusing on environmental and social issues in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Before joining REDRESS she also worked as a Communication Officer in organisations in the UK serving migrants and the Southeast and East Asian community. Dianne studied Communication (BA) and a postgraduate diploma in Photojournalism in the Philippines. She also has a MA in Media, Ethics and Social Change from the University of Sussex.
Gosia Marska
Administration and Operations Assistant
Prior to joining REDRESS, she worked in various communications, fundraising and administrative functions. In 2019, she joined the Trust Fund for Victims at the International Criminal Court as a Visiting Professional. Later on, she participated in the UN Volunteers Scheme, helping to launch a programme focused on women’s economic development with an NGO in Cameroon. From 2021, she was the Communications and Community Officer at We Share Forward Foundation, focused on providing funding to students and entrepreneurs aiming to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. Additionally, she is currently finishing her (hons.) MA degree in Public International Law at Leiden University.
Sam Murphy
Finance Assistant
Sam recently graduated from the University of Leeds with a degree in mathematics, during which time they investigated the theory underlying musical systems and tessellating art. They served as treasurer for three student societies, including the LGBT+ society, and along with their business partner won a prize in the 2021 Leeds Business Plan Competition for the development of an upcoming board game. In September 2022, they joined the finance team at REDRESS.
Letizia Paoloni
Operations Manager
Letizia is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the CUNY Graduate School in New York, where she obtained her master’s degree in Political Science. Prior to joining REDRESS, Letizia was a research associate at the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies in New York, where she organised and coordinated the RBI UN Seminar Series, and conducted research on UN operations, human rights, globalisation and development. As project manager of the Ralph Bunche Centenary Celebration Secretariat, she worked closely with over 90 worldwide organisations to coordinate the Centenary’s events such as conferences, lectures, exhibits, event openings, educational outreach programmes and TV shows.
Renata Politi
Legal Advisor
Renata is a Legal Officer at REDRESS since 2021. She focuses on initiatives to promote justice and accountability for discriminatory torture against LGBTIQ+ persons, advance anti-torture standards, and implement reparation for survivors. Renata has nine years of experience in litigation, advocacy, and research. Prior to REDRESS, Renata has worked as a criminal lawyer in Brazil, and focused on the implementation of UN treaties and national mechanisms for implementation, reporting, and follow-up. She spent time at the Human Rights Implementation Centre (Bristol), and at Universal Rights Group (Geneva). She holds an LLM from the University of Bristol, concentrating on International Human Rights Law, and postgraduate diplomas in criminal law from the University of Salamanca, and the University of Coimbra jointly with the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences.

Camila Marin Restrepo
Communities Officer
Camila focuses on REDRESS’ survivor-centred work, specifically in promoting participatory access to justice for survivors of torture in the UK. She has an extensive background in advocacy and capacity-building with survivors of human rights abuses, including survivors of torture and persecution, refugees, and families of disappeared persons. She has previously worked with Human Rights Defenders at risk with Peace Brigades International in Mexico, and most recently with the Grenfell-affected community in London. During the construction and implementation of the Colombian Peace Agreement, Camila advocated for the inclusion of the Colombian Diaspora from a gendered perspective and accompanied survivor-led reconciliation initiatives in the UK and Europe. She currently contributes to the work of Colombia’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. She has an MSc in Social and Cultural Anthropology from UCL and BSc in Economics from Queen Mary, University of London.
Alejandro Rodriguez
Legal Officer
Alejandro is a Colombian Lawyer with a master’s degree in Public International Law from Utrecht University. Before joining REDRESS, he worked at ‘United for Justice’ and ‘Humanidad Vigente’. In these roles, Alejandro represented victims of human rights violations in Colombia, Peru, Mexico, and Guatemala in the Inter-American Human Rights System and United Nations treaty bodies. He also has experience as a research assistant on topics such as armed conflict and sexual orientation and gender identity issues.
Eva Sanchis
Head of Communications
Eva joined REDRESS in 2011. She is a former Johns Hopkins University’s International Reporting Project fellow and a winner of the Guillermo Martínez-Marquez award for Latin American Reporting. She was the Metro and National News editor of El Diario-La Prensa, New York’s largest Spanish language newspaper. She previously worked as its senior political and investigative reporter, and worked on several award-winning projects. In the United Kingdom, she has written for the Financial Times Magazine and BBC Mundo. She has a M.A. in Journalism and Latin American studies from New York University, where she was an adjunct professor.

Rupert Skilbeck
Director
Rupert Skilbeck is a barrister who specialises in human rights law and international criminal law, who has directed strategic litigation around the world. Before joining REDRESS in 2018, was the Litigation Director at the Open Society Justice Initiative, where he oversaw human rights litigation in more than 100 cases including torture, deaths in custody, discrimination, fair trial rights, corruption, national security, and international criminal law. Prior to this he worked with international and hybrid criminal tribunals in Cambodia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sierra Leone. In 2006 he was appointed by the United Nations as the Principal Defender for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. He was also the director of Odsjek Krivicne Odbrane, the criminal defence section of the State Court in Sarajevo, and the defence advisor at the Special Court for Sierra Leone. From 1995 to 2004 he practiced primarily at the criminal bar in London and on the Midland circuit.

Isabelle Terranova

As a Legal Fellow at REDRESS, Isabelle’s work is focused on Financial Accountability and Implementation of reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence. Before joining REDRESS, Isabelle graduated with a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. At Georgetown, she specialized in National Security Law, obtained a Certificate in Refugees and Humanitarian Emergencies, and was a Public Interest Fellow. Throughout her studies, Isabelle participated in human rights advocacy projects at various organizations, including The Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law at the University of Pennsylvania and The Georgetown Law Center Human Rights Institute.
Mark Tomlinson
Finance Officer
After graduating from University College London in 2012, Mark spent the first years of his career working in museums before transferring to an office and finance role with an award-winning soft drinks manufacturer. Together with the founders he grew the company from start-up to a small-medium size business with drinks available in major retailers and pub and restaurant chains nationwide. In 2021 he studied his AAT (Level 2) Foundation Certificate in Accounting before joining REDRESS’s finance team in January 2022.
Alejandra Vicente
Head of Law
Alejandra joined REDRESS in 2018 as Head of Law. She is a recognised expert in international human rights law, and a leading practitioner of strategic human rights litigation. Prior to joining REDRESS, Alejandra was the Legal Director at the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), where she oversaw their strategic litigation of human rights cases before the Inter-American Commission and Court of Human Rights. In her 10 years at CEJIL she litigated ground-breaking cases, including the torture of journalists (Herzog v. Brazil), international responsibility for torture against non-state actors (Linda Loayza v. Venezuela), sexual and gender-based violence as torture (Gladys Espinosa v. Peru, Women of Atenco v. Mexico), and summary executions and forced disappearance (Palacio de Justicia v. Colombia).

Professor Sir Malcolm Evans, KCMG, OBE – Chair
Sir Malcolm Evans, KCMG, OBE is Professor of Public International Law and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law in the University of Bristol. His research interests include the law of the sea and the international protection of human rights, with a particular focus on the freedom of religion and the prevention of torture. He was Head of the School of Law (2003-2005) before becoming Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law. He is a member of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Advisory Panel on Freedom of Religion and Belief; the International Law Association Human Rights Law and Practice Committee, and the Board of Management of the Association for the Prevention of Torture. He has worked extensively on human rights issues for numerous international bodies and NGOs and is currently a member and Chair of the United Nations Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture. In 2015 Evans was appointed as a member of the reconstituted panel of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse. He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in the 2016 New Year Honours for services to torture prevention and religious freedom.
Professor Helen Duffy
Helen Duffy runs ‘Human Rights in Practice,’ specialising in strategic human rights litigation and international legal advice. She has litigated ground-breaking cases in the European, African and Inter-American systems, and intervened before international and national courts. For 10 years prior to setting up her practice she was Legal Director of INTERIGHTS, prior to which she was Legal Adviser in the Prosecutors Office of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Previously as Counsel to Human Rights Watch on International Justice, she was involved in negotiating the International Criminal Court Statute and in the Pinochet proceedings. She was also the Legal Director of the NGO Centro para Acción Legal en Derechos Humanos in Guatemala. She began her career in the UK government legal service, from where she was appointed Assistant Secretary to L.J. Scott’s Arms for the Iraq inquiry.

Phillip Hodgson
Philip is the CEO of Brevio, a start-up that is looking at grant-making processes to make them more efficient and effective for both charities and donors. He is an experienced program manager, consultant, and award-winning MBA, with experience of working within the large multinational construction businesses, heritage retailers, and start-ups in the tech space. He was previously the managing director of Apopsi Consulting, a specialist consultancy with a focus on brand and marketing strategy and a wider business strategy offering. He has an MBA from the University of Bath, where he was the winner of two international MBA competitions (in FinTech and Smart Technologies).
Sara Hossain
Sara Hossain is a lawyer at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and an honorary executive director of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST). She was one of the recipients of the 2016 International Women of Courage Award awarded by the US Secretary of State. She played a key role in drafting Bangladesh’s first comprehensive legislation on violence against women, which went on to become law in 2010. She is also a Trustee of the UN Voluntary Fund for Victim of Torture. She is known for her role in challenging fatwa violence, where fatwas are issued to meet out degrading and violent punishments to women and girls.
Kirsten McIntyre
Kirsten is a Director at Deloitte, and the London Manager of Market Gravity, a proposition design consultancy, which helps mobilise teams in big businesses to create new ventures, new products, and new services. She is a senior innovation consultant, with a proven track record in delivering innovative and insight-driven propositions for blue chip clients. At Market Gravity she has a dual role as business development and project oversight, while managing a team of 35. She was previously a senior digital strategist at Blue Latitude, a specialist digital marketing consultancy.
Andrew Songa
Andrew Songa is a Kenyan lawyer and human rights advocate with over a decade of experience in the areas of legal research, domestic and international policy advocacy, and strategic litigation. He was a Program Manager for the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), a member of the Advisory Committee for the Study of Transitional Justice in Africa undertaken by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and of the Reference Group that assisted the African Commission to draft a General Comment on the Right to Redress for Victims of Torture and Other Ill-Treatment. As a legal advisor, he has worked on the implementation of various strategic litigation cases, including the Endorios case decision from the African Commission as well as the Ogiek case decision from the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

Ceri Thomas is Editor and Partner at Tortoise Media, a slow journalism platform focusing on untold stories that offer a deeper understanding of what is happening in the world. He has previously been the Director of Public Affairs and Communication at Oxford University, a former editor of BBC One’s Panorama, Head of BBC News Programmes, and the longest-serving editor of BBC Radio 4’s The Today programme.
Karen Thompson
Karen is a not-for-profit and charity specialist who has worked in the charity sector for over 16 years, both as a finance director and chief operating officer, and as a partner in some of the leading charity-specialist accounting and advisory teams. She has worked with a huge range of organisations, from household name charities to small local organisations, membership bodies, educational charities, grant giving foundations, international development charities and social enterprises. She brings hands on experience of delivering on strategy, transforming finance teams and creating change.
Evan Williams
Evan Williams is a senior financial manager and analyst with over 15 years of experience developing and delivering successful strategies for businesses and the banking industry that drive growth. One of his achievements to date include leading a project team of more than 120 people to deliver a global transformation programme building and embedding a new enterprise Finance system in Barclays. Another achievement he is particularly proud of is the Guinness World Record 5km run he arranged in Hyde Park in 2017 in support of mental health and the charity Heads Together.

REDRESS Nederland
REDRESS Nederland was formally established in The Hague in 2016. Willa has had a long career as Charity Finance Director and is currently the owner of a start-up business. She worked for a range of British and US charities as Finance Director, the last of which was at the International Office of UWC, a global educational movement. During her time there, she oversaw the global financial strategy for fifteen schools and colleges spread over five continents and was part of a successful overhaul of the global financial and governance structures. In 2016 she changed career and started a groundbreaking start-up business taking antique porcelain into the online world, quickly building up a large online following and now exporting British antique porcelain items all over the world.

Prof. Dr. Rianne Letschert is a is a recognised Dutch law scholar. She has been Rector Magnificus of Maastricht University since 2016. Previously Letschert was professor of victimology and international law at Tilburg University between 2011 and 2016. She holds a LL.M and PhD Degree in Law. She was a recipient of the prestigious VIDI grant, granted by the Dutch National Research Council. Her academic work is characterised by applying an interdisciplinary approach for a sharp analysis of the effectiveness of existing legal instruments and the desirability of new tools and institutional frameworks, in particular in the framework of post-conflict societies. .
