The Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation

REDRESS worked closely and directly with the two United Nations Special Rapporteurs which had been assigned the task of drafting the Basic Principles, as well as the Government of Chile, which had sponsored the text, by providing input on the draft text, suggesting amendments and providing commentary. REDRESS also led a coalition of civil society groups to provide joint input on the text and to encourage governments to support the adoption of the principles. Now that the Basic Principles and Guidelines have been adopted, REDRESS is seeking to promote them in its work around the world with survivors, local organisations and governments by working to ensure that they are implemented in individual cases and the broader policy frameworks of governments.
